Recently, here at Electrifying Insights, we’ve been excitedly discussing the gradual opening of the Tesla Supercharger network to other EV manufacturers. Since the start of the year, the network has become accessible to Ford and Rivian vehicles, with GM, Polestar, and Volvo expected to join in the spring.
However, as we previously reported, GM is experiencing delays in providing their NACS to CCS adapter to customers, causing a postponed launch of Supercharger access.
Today, we’ve received even more disappointing news. According to a report from PCMag, a Polestar spokesperson said the following regarding Supercharger access, “The timeline has been adjusted to later this summer, but we don’t have further details to share at this time.” Given that Polestar and Volvo are under the same parent company, Geely, it’s likely the same delay applies to Volvo as well.
Many are speculating that the recent layoffs of the Supercharger team, which we also recently covered, might be contributing to these delays. However, there is no official confirmation linking the layoffs to the delays at this time.
It’s unfortunate to see delayed access to the Supercharger network for GM, Polestar, and Volvo customers. But with summer just around the corner, we hope these customers will soon be able to utilize the Supercharger network in time for their summer travels.
