Potential Tesla Model Y buyers in Europe are in for a treat this week! Tesla of Europe has just launched a new variant of the Model Y, the Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive. While some might dismiss this as a minor update, it could be just the nudge needed for many to commit to purchasing a Model Y. Until now, the Model Y available with the longest range was the Long Range All-Wheel Drive, which offered an estimated 331 miles on a full charge. However, the newly introduced Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive variant extends this range to an impressive 372 miles on a single charge, making it the new range king in the Model Y family.
This significant increase, likely achieved by using the same battery pack but optimizing efficiency with a single motor powering the rear axle, enhances its road-tripping abilities by a considerable amount.
There is a trade-off, however, and that’s in the acceleration department. The 0-100 km/h time has increased to 5.9 seconds, up from the 5.0 seconds the Long Range All-Wheel Drive variant can achieve. However, this is to be expected since the vehicle is missing an extra motor compared to its All-Wheel Drive sibling. It’s reasonable to assume, though, that those prioritizing outright performance would likely lean towards the Performance Model Y anyway.
Other than these changes, the new Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive variant doesn’t appear to have any other compromises. Notably, it also arrives with a substantial price reduction, starting at €48,990, compared to €54,990 for the Long Range All-Wheel Drive version.
While we have no word on whether this Model Y variant will be available in the US at some point, but for those in Europe considering a Model Y, now is an excellent time to place an order and take advantage of a great deal on 2023’s best-selling vehicle if you live in one of these markets:
