Ford has officially announced a much-needed refresh for its very first electric vehicle, the Mustang Mach-E. This refresh introduces a few needed improvements and some extra bonuses, such as faster acceleration, increased charging speed, and longer range.

The Mustang Mach-E holds a special place in the hearts of many in the EV community, thanks to its strong and dedicated following, but it’s not without its issues. One issue that is being addressed for the 2024 model year is range. Ford has provided updated range estimates for all the 2024 trim levels while crediting the improved efficiency to a newly developed in-house rear motor. Ford is also introducing a new Lithium-Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack in the Standard Range Mustang Mach-E, increasing its range to 250 miles from the previous 247 miles. While not a huge increase across the board, these enhancement could help boost the car’s road-tripping potential.

One of Mach-E’s weakest points was charging speed, a notable area of improvement in the 2024 models. Where the Extended Range Battery previously required about 45 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% at a DC fast charger, the 2024 model year of the Mach-E is claimed to accomplish this in just 36.2 minutes. The Standard Range Battery version is also receiving a charging speed boost, as its 10-80% charge time has been reduced to 32.3 minutes. Despite maintaining a peak charging rate of 150kW, it seems as though Ford has majorly improved the charging curve, allowing the 2024 Mach-E to sustain peak charging speeds longer.

In terms of performance, the Mustang Mach-E GT model now offers an optional “Performance Upgrade” package, slashing the 0-60 mph time to 3.3 seconds, down from the previous 3.8 seconds. Additionally, Ford has unveiled a new Mustang Mach-E Rally model, equipped by default with the Performance Upgrade and sporting a more Rally-esk look, including rally-inspired stripes, wheels, tires, and a spoiler. This model also stands an inch taller than the GT and is marketed for both on-road and off-road use.

Overall, the 2024 Mustang Mach-E is a significant step forward from its predecessor, including key improvements across performance, efficiency, and usability. While these upgrades do come at a higher price, we think the enhancements in performance, increased efficiency leading to more range, and quicker charging times are more than enough reasons to opt for the 2024 model over the older models.
