A long-standing debate within the Tesla community has revolved around the naming scheme for the refreshed Model 3. Many have claimed, based on leaks, that the internal name for the new Model 3 is “Highland.” This name has caught on with many, as reviewers and journalists alike have referred to the vehicle as the Model 3 Highland.

As with any passionate community, strong disagreements have emerged, and many dispute that the new Model 3 was codenamed “Highland.” This debate intensified after Elon Musk posted on X, stating that the “Highland” internal name for the new Model 3 was “not real.”

Adding to the confusion, a user on X named Carsly recently posted photos of a new Model 3 sitting in a holding lot, covered in factory plastic wrap. In one of the photos, a sticker on the passenger headrest clearly bears the name “Highland.”

This evidence seems to confirm that internally, the new Model 3 is indeed referred to as “Highland.” Whether or not Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk is aware of this remains uncertain.
