We’ve recently covered the recent development with GM finally allowing their EV customers to order an official CCS to NACS adapter, setting the stage for future access to Tesla Superchargers. At that time, it appeared strange that GM imposed a $55 fee for the adapter when competitors like Ford and Rivian were providing them at no cost to their customers. While $55 is reasonably priced, GM’s decision to deviate from the industry trend raised some eyebrows.
However, we’ve now received an update from GM concerning the CCS to NACS adapter. The company issued the following statement: “We are reaching out with an update on the upcoming North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapter that will allow GM customers to charge on the Supercharger Network.
Due to an unforeseen error, the upcoming GM NACS adapter was inadvertently listed in the online GM parts catalog and prematurely made available to order at an incorrect price. All orders that were created have been canceled…. We expect to provide you with more details on timing, NACS adapter availability, pricing, and fulfillment details in the coming weeks. As a reminder, the Supercharger Network is not open to GM drivers at this time.”
