Electrify America has just introduced a Congestion Reduction Pilot to enhance the charging experience for electric vehicle drivers by reducing wait times and increasing throughput at high-usage stations. This initiative, supposedly inspired by customer feedback, enforces an 85% State of Charge (SOC) limit at select locations. Once an EV reaches this SOC, the charging session ends automatically, and drivers have a 10-minute window to move their vehicle before incurring idle fees.
Details and Locations
The pilot program is being conducted at several high-utilization stations in California, including locations in Burbank, Carson, Glendale, Los Angeles, La Crescenta, San Diego, San Dimas, Van Nuys, and Yorba Linda. Electrify America’s goal is to monitor and adjust based on station performance and customer sentiment.
Impact on Charging and Queuing
By limiting the SOC to 85%, Electrify America aims to minimize queuing times, allowing more drivers to access charging stations more efficiently. This approach also addresses customer concerns about prolonged wait times and ensures that charging sessions are timely and efficient.
Future Plans and Customer Feedback
The pilot, starting in early July 2024, will be continuously evaluated. Electrify America will review customer feedback and station data to decide on potential expansions of the program. Customers can stay updated through the Electrify America mobile app or website.
