Unless you’ve lived under a rock in recent months, you’ll probably know that the Tesla Cybertruck has dominated automotive industry conversations lately, whether positive or negative. Many owners have said the truck makes them feel like instant celebrities, bombarded with questions about their vehicle wherever they go. However, what might be less known is the current rarity of the Cybertruck. With Tesla holding over 2 million reservations for this model, many of which were made back in 2019, new potential buyers might find themselves in for a long wait, potentially a few years, before they can get their hands on a new Cybertruck. In light of this, several early reservation holders have decided to try and capitalize on the vehicle’s scarcity, attempting to sell their Cybertrucks for a profit, despite Tesla’s scary looking no-resale policy included in the sales agreement, which states that Tesla may seek “injunctive relief to prevent the transfer of the title of the vehicle or demand liquidated damages from you in the amount of $50,000…” However, this policy doesn’t seem to be enforced at the time being.

Initially, this resale endeavor proved successful for a few, with one individual successfully selling their Cybertruck to a Porsche dealership in Florida for a whopping $289,000, a $46,000 profit over the original price. Yet, it appears interest in the second-hand Cybertruck market has begun to dwindle. Numerous listings have sat online for weeks without buyers, and asking prices are on a downward trend. Notably, a Cybertruck recently fetched the lowest resale price to date on eBay Motors, selling for $151,200. This truck, wrapped in white and equipped with tinted windows for added flair, sold for significantly less than earlier resales.

This doesn’t necessarily signify waning interest in the Cybertruck itself but does reflect a decrease in the number of individuals willing to pay nearly $300,000 for one. It could also be possible that many are fearful of the aforementioned no-resale clause which could effectively halt the transfer of the vehicle’s title.
