Tesla has recently announced an exciting new update for the Cybertruck, set to roll out to customers soon. These long-awaited updates focus on improving the vehicle’s off-roading performance in various challenging terrains and conditions, as well as introducing new features to enhance the overall driving experience.

The first new major feature is the introduction of Off-Road Mode. This mode offers two options, which are Overland Mode and Baja Mode. Overland Mode is designed to provide more consistent handling and better overall traction when driving on rock, gravel, deep snow, or sand. So hopefully there will be fewer videos of Cybertrucks getting stuck in the snow surfacing online. On the other hand, Baja Mode focuses on improving vehicle balance and enabling the vehicle to handle more freely when Stability Assist is set to Minimal. This mode is ideal for those who want to push their Cybertruck to the limit and experience the thrill of off-roading, hopefully, without getting stuck.

Another exciting feature is the addition of Tesla finally enabling Locking Differentials in Off-Road Mode. This feature allows the vehicle to direct torque to the opposite wheel when one wheel has limited or no traction on uneven or slippery terrain.

Trail Assist is another new notable feature, which functions like cruise control but for off-roading. This feature helps maintain a set cruising speed, which allows drivers to focus on steering. Trail Assist also functions as both a hill ascent and descent control.

The new Slippery Surface feature offers better traction control for those who frequently drive on slippery surfaces. This feature evenly distributes traction across all tires, ensuring a safer and more stable driving experience in these conditions. Additionally, a new Dynamics feature embedded into Slippery Surface mode allows drivers to engage the Rear Locking Differential for increased traction, but Tesla recommends that it should be only used temporarily.

Lastly, the update includes a new feature called CyberTent Mode. Tesla has stated that this mode levels the suspension to provide a flat surface for sleeping comfortably in a CyberTent, a tent accessory for the Cybertruck currently priced at a steep $3,000. It also keeps the tonneau cover open to accommodate the tent, while lights, AC, and outlets can also stay on if enabled.

With these much-needed updates, Tesla continues to improve the Cybertruck’s capabilities and versatility, catering to a much wider range of driving conditions. These features are expected to roll out via a software update in the near future, but its release is yet to be announced.
